I Found Grace

About three times a year I stop in at our local Humane Society to get the good cry out... actually smelling onions would save on my emotional well-being, or call it self destructive but I rather believe it to be the nurturer that I truly am . I am walking thru the alleys peering into the eyes of those poor lost animals living on death row in cold cement kennels. I have an ability to see into the souls of some animals. Not always a good thing, and other times a wonderful gift. I cant say "Gracie's" soul met mine that day. But I will tell you she was standing so tiny on the cold floor shaking. Staring at me shaking none the less. They called her Buttercup which she didn't respond to. That stare did it and I walked swiftly to the front desk like I was at a Sears sale or a garage sale so to beat the next guy before they got the goods I wanted. This is when I met Richard. Sometimes we meet people that just stick with us in our memories and Richard will be one of those people. An older man with white hair that kisses and loved on all the dogs, big and small. He was so happy to see "Buttercup" find a good home. They told me she was a stray and they only keep strays for seven days and her days were up. No one had called for "Buttercup." I cant imagine why not because she is house trained, she cuddles up next to my neck, she follows me everywhere, and she is healthy and I can tell a tad spoiled. She also is used to cats because I have two of them. My 19 year old cat doesn't seem to mind "Gracie" which is unusual. I suspected he would at least make a "mark" somewhere to get back at me for bringing another critter in. Lucy, the two year old short hair is a bit more skittish. She will be playing with Grace within a couple days I am sure of it. When the snow flies I will have to shovel a bitty spot for Grace to relieve herself without disappearing. And this year she will be joining the rest of the family at the old farm. I am sad for the person that lost their dear little long hair Chihuahua and wonders if she is alright. Maybe they will read this by some miracle. Tomorrow we will visit Target for a warm coat and a proper leash and maybe a little crown. Just kidding.
